We are celebrating 12 years of partnership! A Remarkable dive watch from Squale specially made for Singapore's Gnomon Watches.
2023 is a milestone for Neuchatel's Maison- Squale and their long-term partner from Singapore - Gnomon Watches. The Swiss dive watch specialist with the diver-oriented name by the Von Buren family, who founded the brand, has been working closely with their beloved retailer, who shares the same passion for twelve years. Today, the dive watchband case manufacturer celebrates this partnership by releasing an extraordinary edition of an exceptional timepiece unlike any from the case-maker. With Squale, we would like to introduce a beautiful dive watch with a new case design that packs a date and sub-second display. Although it's filled with these latest marvels, the Squale Tributo Edizione is still heavily based on its ethos in the 60s.
Squale Tributo Black - Ltd Ed 23pcs |
Everyone who is into dive watches would remember this watch brand has supplied some of the most famous watch companies in the world. The new Squale is the tribute of the Squale Professional Master divers that utilized a 600m water-resistant retro case during the early 2010s.
These specific styling cues are seen on the new modern tribute, size down from 44mm to 39.8mm ( 1mm more when including the bezel) wide diver with sharp distinctive lugs design with 500m water-resistant. Do not let the muscular case design spook you; the Tributo is svelte with a height of 13mm and 48mm lug to lug. Thanks to the unique case construction, it bears a slim mid-case, an improvement from the very first design.
The ed dial |
Let's start from the top. The bezel ode-to-past comes with an upgrade, using a modern ceramic insert to blend in with today's material, with each minute marker filled with contrasting white enamel. Further, its bezel grooves are true to its kind, thin and intricate, with a beautiful sloped design before the grooves, all that while still comfortable for one to rotate. The unique design has a satin-finished midsection that elevates the bezel from the mid-case, giving it an original look from most dive watches.
Now to the mid-case, compared to the old blocky Master design, it now has svelte elegant lugs that feature several elegant beveling, done in full polish that showcases the traits of Squale manufacturing. It also results in addition to a beautiful retro-ish look. Following the slimmer lugs, they narrowed into the middle of the watch, resulting in a good balance. Finishing up, the Tributo comes with a period-correct signed screw down crown at 3 o'clock for a tranquil setting. This crown is much like its brethren from the 50, 60 and 101 Atmos collections.
Onto the dial side, Squale has up-the-ante with a unique artisanal guilloché texture. The particular "barley-corn" pattern is a highly decorative technique used in metalwork since the 18th century to create intricate designs. Squale executed these delicate dials by hand through an engine-turning method done by skilled artisans.
This unique design accommodates, for the first time, two different sub-dials measuring the 60 seconds and date display, respectively. With these two complications added, wearers can now enjoy more than just the usual time and date reading while not affecting any legibility or throwing off the balance of the aesthetics. Everything on the dial is brilliantly executed and is flanged with a matching silvery minute rehaut. Owners can now enjoy all the details on the dial through its flat-shaped crystal made from sapphire material for durability with internal AR coating.
The modified movement done by watchmakers in Switzerland can be seen through its open-case back design. This novelty is seldom done by Squale, but since this model is a notable exception, they wanted to showcase the beauty of the upgraded ETA 2836-2. The movement is designed to display the seconds and date separately through its sub-dials, and the 29 jewels movement is heavily decorated with pelage bridges and Côtes de Genève finishing on the golden oscillating rotor. The movement also clads a 38 hours power reserve, running at 4 Hz (28,800VPH), providing mechanical reliability.

To finish the whole package, Squale and Gnomon watches have the watch and straps placed within a handmade wooden box explicitly made and locally in Italy. Within it, we got a beautifully engraved plate with both our companies' logos with a personal message from the CEO of Squale - Mr Andrea Maggi.
While a mark of Squale's and Gnomon's achievements for the past twelve years. Here's another authentic tribute to its roots as a well-known reliable supplier for others with their dive timing instrument, and lastly, taking pride in that even until today, for us watch nerds.
